“Winemaker Andrew Jones has a keen eye for diamonds in the rough: sites that are unknown or under-appreciated but hold enormous untapped potential. He strives for unique wines loaded with personality and a one-of-a-kind experience. Field Recordings is winemaker Andrew Jones’ personal catalog of the people and places he values most. Our wines are all about the flavor — with none of the pretension. We create approachable, crushable wines that suit a special occasion or a Tuesday night.”
OUR PHILOSOPHY. . AGRICULTURALLY DRIVEN: We believe excellent wine is made in the vineyard. .
OFF THE BEATEN PATH: Single-varietal wines, unique blends & trendsetting techniques. . AFFORDABLE: Most large-production wines priced at $25 per bottle.
SUSTAINABLE . NO ADDITIVES . NATIVE YEAST . VEGAN . MINIMAL SULFITES
No trust funds here — Andrew Jones crafted his first batch of wine in his attic, and built Field Recordings based on trusted relationships with vineyard managers and producers. Andrew stumbled into winemaking after earning a football scholarship to Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and randomly choosing agriculture business as his major. He landed a job as a vine nursery fieldman, planning and planting vineyards for farmers all over California. Having stood in just about every vineyard on the Central Coast, he’s all about finding those underdogs with untapped potential. As friendships are made and opportunities are embraced, Andrew produces small quantities of soulful wine from these unusual, quiet vineyards.
Andrew has been at the forefront of every trend in California winemaking over the past 15 years — like canned wine, everyday skin contact blends, pét nats and boxed wine that’s actually good. Wine Enthusiast nominated Andrew for its 2023 Innovator of the Year award, noting that his forward-thinking approach has “helped make Paso Robles a new hub of wine country tourism.” We source our wines from organic, sustainable and biodynamic vineyards, and our winery earned OTCO organic certification. Before it was trendy, Andrew emphasized minimal intervention winemaking techniques, using minimal sulfites and native yeast.
